Crafting the Research Statement
I recently came across a great presentation by James (Jim) Pawelczyk about Crafting the Research Statement. This 20 minute talk is well worth your time as Pawelczyk reviews the fundamentals of a research statement, an integral part of the application process for academic faculty positions. Pawelczyk, an American Astronaut and Associate Professor of Physiology, Kinesiology and Medicine at Pennsylvania State University gave this presentation at a 2008 Trainee Symposium for The American Physiological Society on “Marketing Yourself on Paper for Academic Positions.”
Watch the presentation here and share your thoughts and tips about writing research statements with us on The PostDocs Forum blog and LinkedIn Group.

This is funny. I found the slides for this presentation, randomly, online when I first began applying for faculty positions. Only now for the first time am I hearing the audio that goes with it.
Ironically, in my two years at Penn State, I never met Jim Pawelczyk nor did I see this presentation.
